In Luke 7:36–50, Jesus is invited to the home of Simon the Pharisee when a woman known as a sinner enters the room. She weeps at Jesus’ feet, wipes them with her hair, kisses them, and pours perfume over them.
Simon sees a sinful woman who doesn’t belong.
Jesus sees someone who knows she needs grace.
Through a powerful story about two debtors, Jesus reveals a simple truth: those who understand how much they’ve been forgiven will respond with much love.
The Gospel isn’t about pretending we have little to be forgiven. It’s about recognizing the depth of our sin—and the even greater depth of Christ’s mercy.
When we truly understand what Jesus has forgiven us, love becomes the natural response.
